  • Nearly Half Israeli Settlement Land is Palestinian

Middle East watchdog group Peace Now says that nearly half of the land occupied by Israeli wildcat outposts in the occupied West Bank is private Palestinian property. The group says forty-four percent of the land where the illegal settlements are built belong to private Palestinian owners, and that the vast majority of the outposts -- 80 of the more than 100 in the territory -- are either partially or wholly built on private Palestinian land without the owners authorization. Although the international community considers all Israeli settlements illegal, Israel makes a distinction between those authorized by the government and so-called wildcat outposts, set up by zealous settlers without state approval.

Various shots of representatives meeting inside the PLC STORYLINE: Representatives of Palestinian political groups in Gaza met on Saturday night to discuss how they will respond to the end of Israeli occupation of the area under Ariel Sharon''s plans for a military disengagement from most Palestinian territories. Gaza representatives of Palestinian groups such as Yasser Arafat''s Fatah party, Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) met at the Palestinian Legislative Council offices in Gaza City. Israel''s Prime Minister Ariel Sharon detailed his proposed withdrawal from Gaza and most of the West Bank in interviews with three Israeli newspapers on Friday. The proposals would see the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza starting within a year. The only land Israel would continue to hold there would be a patrol road along the territory''s border with Egypt that the military says is crucial to combat weapons smuggling. In the lead-up to a withdrawal from Gaza, Sharon said he would order a freeze on construction in the coastal strip''s 21 Jewish settlements, all of which would be removed under the plan. Initially, Sharon had considered holding onto three of the enclaves in northern Gaza. The Israeli leader''s Likud Party is to make a final decision on the proposal. Its 200,000 members are divided and will vote in a binding referendum after Sharon returns from an April 14 meeting with US President George W. Bush. An Islamic Jihad representative at the Gaza meeting on Saturday, Khaled el Batesh, indicated his group would wait to see the scale and effect of the Israeli withdrawal from the region before making its position clear. Hebron’s 200,000 Palestinians are effectively held hostage by the 800 Israeli settlers who live in its centre. The men now face ludicrous charges clearly designed to obstruct their human rights work.

An anti-Israel movement is demanding that Netflix drop the hit Israeli show “Fauda” from its platform. In a letter Wednesday, the international Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement said the show is complicit in Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory. “Fauda [serves as] racist propaganda for the Israeli occupying army and displays aggression towards the Palestinian people, and the process it is leading for freedom and independence." BDS BDS says it will consider legal action against Netflix for being complicit in Israel’s treatment of Palestinians. “This is a series that is racist against Arabs and that encourages violating international law and human rights — which could lead us to take legal actions against Netflix." BDS "People who once hated anything to do with Israel have been exposed to the complexity of the conflict and the humanity on both sides.” 'Fauda' Producer Liat Benasuly-Amit https://www.sfgate.com/entertainment/the-wrap/article/Anti-Israel-Boycott-Group-Demands-Netflix-Drop-12791715.php http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Entertainment using http://wochit.com

With Palestinians protesting across the Southern territory and West Bank on Friday, these extra troops have a mission: blocking people from crossing the border into Israel. Thursday marked a rare respite from the violence until Palestinian rioters set fire to Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus overnight, Israeli and independent media reported. Palestinian Authority security forces dispersed the mob at the compound believed to contain the remains of the Old Testament patriarch Joseph in the West Bank and put out the blaze. But the attack on the Jewish site was a worrying development as Palestinian groups called for protests after Friday prayers.

In which John Green teaches you about conflict in Israel and Palestine. This conflict is often cast as a long-term beef going back thousands of years, and rooted in a clash between religions. Well, that's not quite true. What is true is that the conflict is immensely complicated, and just about everyone in the world has an opinion about it. John is going to try to get the facts across in under 13 minutes. In the West Bank and Gaza, ordinary movement—to get to work, to a hospital, to school—is restricted, wreaking havoc on the lives of Palestinians who live there. Gisha is an Israeli human rights organization that promotes the right to freedom of movement. They provide legal assistance and engage in public advocacy to try to change policies that restrict freedom of movement but that don't involve legitimate security needs. We spoke with Gisha's founder, Sari Bashi. Learn more: http://www.opensocietyfoundations.org/voices/israeli-group-helps-palestinians-find-freedom

Amnesty International is accusing Israeli forces of using reckless violence in the occupied Palestinian territories. A new report from the human rights group goes as far as to suggest some killings may actually be war crimes.
